KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. The peak of the dry season as a result of El Nino will occur in September, October and November. One of the impacts of El Nino is an increase in the price of animal feed ingredients such as corn, which will result in an increase in the price of poultry products.
The chairman of the Association of Animal Feed Companies (GPMT) Timbul Sihombing said the animal feed industry needed breakthroughs and innovations to overcome the surge in corn prices as a result of El Nino. One way is to utilize alternative sources of raw materials.
“Two months ago, we from the association were invited by the Korean Government to attend there. They introduced black fly products as a raw material for animal feed. It has become an industry there, imagine the small flies have been produced in a spectacle and they already have an association," said Timbul in an official statement, Tuesday (20/6).
Timbul explained, substitution of animal feed ingredients such as broken rice, broken noodles and broken biscuits. Timbul said, the animal feed industry has started looking for substitutes for feed raw materials because the price of corn in the first quarter of 2023 has started to rise.
According to Timbul, corn is still the main ingredient in animal feed, which is around 40% - 50%. The increase in corn prices will certainly increase the cost of animal feed production. Moreover, the government has banned corn imports since 2016. This factor has made the animal feed industry start looking for alternative feed ingredients.
