USSEC AND GPMT HELD INDONESIA SHRIMP RETREAT 2023 IN YOGYAKARTA

The development of the shrimp industry in Indonesia and on a global scale is always interesting to discuss. In his remarks, Denny Mulyono as Chairman of the Association of Animal Feed Companies (GPMT) said that the raw material, feed or whatever industry in the shrimp industry would grow if all parties knew where the shrimp market was going. Therefore, the Indonesia Shrimp Retreat 2023 event will not only talk about feed issues but more about market issues.

"Gradually all stakeholders from the hatchery, cultivator, processor, feed, we know what the market is like, what is needed or requested so that we can open the market for shrimp as wide as possible so that we can all do business well, sustainably, and we grow together together," said Denny.

In the event which was held in Yogyakarta for two days, Thursday-Friday (2-3/3/2023), Pamudi, USSEC Aquaculture Technical Consultant emphasized that the Indonesia Shrimp Retreat 2023 event is a new branding (new name) for Outlook Indonesian Shrimp. According to him, USSEC will try to accommodate what is needed by the shrimp industry in this country.

“We always work closely with GPMT and SCI. We will support this industry to continue to grow and be sustainable," he said.

On the same occasion, General Chairperson of Shrimp Club Indonesia (SCI) Harris Muhtadi said, SCI really supports the event in the downstream and upstream contexts. SCI as the upstream of shrimp industry activities in Indonesia must start thinking about market oriented not just product oriented.

"We know that the battle in the international market is not only for commodities but also for comparing Indonesian shrimp with a unique positioning, without that we will be crushed by Ecuador, India, Vietnam and so on," he said.

According to Haris, when the Indonesian shrimp industry is production oriented, there must be shifting, not only product oriented but also marketing oriented with rebranding, reorientation, narratives, and also ways to provide a future for Indonesian shrimp, not only commodities but also specialties.

“That is the direction we are going in working with USSEC and GPMT. Hopefully this event is useful, "he concluded.
